Hello everyone! I have decided that we need to reduce the amount of paper that we are using in the classroom. So, the papers coming home every week will only be the reading and spelling homework which will be due on Thursday of every week. In this way, the students can study the spelling all week, and do it at the same time that they do their reading homework. Have a great week!

It’s been a snowy and soggy week, but it sure has been pretty driving up the mountain and seeing all the white in the trees. The majority of the class has finished their solar system presentations, and I am so proud of how they have done.
On March 5th we are going to be doing an egg drop. If you aren’t familiar with this, it is when you build a contraption to keep an egg from breaking when you drop it from a high point. In our class, we are going to drop them from door frame height. Each student will have the opportunity to plan their project, and build it at home. The class will need donations of materials to make this project successful. They are mentioned below. Class is in Need of:

The overhead projector light burnt out, and we have to wait for it to be replaced. So, our hope is that presentations can be done in two weeks. If you would like to attend, please let me know, and I will tell you when your child’s group is doing their presentation. In the meantime, projects will be displayed in the case by the office. Welcome to 2018! The kids had lots of cool stories that they wanted to share about Winter Break. It was so fun to hear about everything, and I was happy to hear that they were excited to come back to school! The flu season is definitely here. Attendance is dropping, and I am hoping that any illnesses are quick to pass so that the kids feel better. We are studying lots of information that the kids don’t want to miss. Just this week I introduced a fun, group solar system project. The kids also enjoyed a fun art project that I like to call Winter Trees. You should ask them about it. Their art pieces turned out beautifully! I was so pleased with how they each dug into the project. We just completed our Science section on Earth and Space and began our unit on Matter. I think that they will really enjoy this one! Sometime during this unit we will be designing egg something to protect an egg so that it doesn’t break when it falls. I haven’t told them yet, but I am so excited about it. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

It’s finally here, and the kids are very ready for some rest, relaxation, and time to play and just be kids.
This week, the kids had their classroom business on Tuesday. They are also to be attending a Nutcracker play at the High School. We also are going to have a Winter Wonderland party on Thursday. Hopefully the students will have a great time, and a great winter break. Classroom Business went great! I was very happy to see how excited the kids were. See you in January! The students have been getting anxious, excitement building as they feel the winter break edging closer and closer. It is fun seeing how energized they are, but at the same time, I am having to remind them that we still need to be on task, and do our best to complete work. The students have found that not getting in their work, and being off task has consequences. Reading Buddies on Thursdays is a reward, so if there has been off task behavior or work is not done, they have to stay in homeroom to complete their work silently. It’s hard to learn how to take personal responsibility for your work and actions, but I am working my best on instilling that positive attitude in the students. Please remember that I do try and keep in contact with you as much as I can. I contact via phone, class dojo, my classroom website, email, and of course, the newsletter handouts. If you ever have any concerns, or wish for clarification on something, please contact me at 541-782-3226, ext. 4226. I really appreciate contact when your student isn’t going to be at school so that I can prepare work for them to do so that they can keep up. The winter cold and flu season is definitely here, so get lots of rest, drink lots of fluids, dress warmly, and take care of yourselves. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

From Ms. Roberts:
Conferences are over, and there are only 9 days of school left until Winter Break. Wow! I’m overwhelmed, and excited at the same time. So are the students in my class. But, we still have a lot of work to get done, so even though we have some fun things planned, it still is not all fun and games. Spelling sheets sent home on the weekend in the newsletter are due the following Mondays. On December 12th, the students are having their Class Business. On the 14th, we are having our Winter Wonderland party which I have some fabulous volunteers for. Thank you so much! In addition, we will be having a fun time in math and reading class on the 14th .
