From Ms. Roberts:
The due date for the solar system project has been extended two weeks to February 12th due to technical difficulties within the classroom. The overhead projector light burnt out, and we have to wait for it to be replaced. So, our hope is that presentations can be done in two weeks. If you would like to attend, please let me know, and I will tell you when your child’s group is doing their presentation. In the meantime, projects will be displayed in the case by the office.

The students are going to be doing a solar system project. This is a group activity that the students will be researching in class. Some of it may come home to be worked on. The students will decide which materials they will need, and will assign each of their group members’ materials to bring in.
Group #1: Mercury
Solar System Project Instructions:
Research and create a model of the solar system using a 3-D representation of the planets and sun. Be creative with how you display your model, and make sure that each of the planets are colored and detailed appropriately. You will also be researching one of the 8 planets in our solar system, providing a drawing (not a printed picture) of it, with at least 4 facts or details about the planet. Information about the planet must be written in full sentences. You can write the information about the planet in 3rd person (You telling me about the information you found, such as in a research essay), or 1st person (A creative story of the planet telling the true information about itself to the audience). There will be 8 different groups, one for each planet. 6 of the groups will have 4 members, and 2 of the groups will have 3 members. The project will be due on Monday, February 12th, and presentations will begin on February 20th. Each group presentation will be 3 minutes long, telling about how the model was made, the planet that the group researched, and the four facts about that planet.
