Grading is just around the corner. I can’t believe how this first term of school flew by! The students were disappointed that their field trip was cancelled this month, but were surprised just today when the ballet came and visited us! Pulcinella by the Eugene Ballet was performed in our gym just after noon. It was great being able to experience that!
The Halloween Social is this evening, and the kids are really looking forward to it. I hope that a fun time is had by all. I am sending out something new today. We are beginning a study in spelling reinforcement. The students are bringing home a worksheet that they need to turn in on Monday. They will study these words and be tested on them in two weeks. Remember that if you want to volunteer in the class or on a field trip, that you need a background check. The paperwork is available in the office. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

Fall is definitely here, and so is the rainy weather that is typical for our Oregon Autumn. Can you believe that October is more than halfway over with already!? I certainly can’t.
The students have begun studying different forms of grammar and punctuation to help them with their writing. In the next week they can expect to add spelling and vocabulary to their list. It’s going to be a short list, but one that will hopefully challenge them, and increase their comprehension. The student of the month nominations are in and will be determined soon! I know there were quite a few responsible students this month! The 2nd week of October is complete. Field trips have been planned, the last volleyball game at home has occurred, school pictures were taken, and we are beginning the self-manager program at school. Boy, the students have had a busy week!
I can’t wait for you to see the paintings that the students have been doing this week! They are amazing! The students have been earning their classroom bucks for good behaviors, good deeds, and jobs well done in the classroom. This week, we had a surprise drawing, where the behavior bucks were put into a jar and one was drawn for a free Scholastic book worth up to $5! It was so amazing, and the students are really enjoying these drawings. The drawings will be done on a surprise day approximately every two weeks. Remember that if you want to volunteer in the class or on a field trip, that you need a background check. The paperwork is available in the office.

Student Spotlight We have our first classroom self-managers! Congratulations Alexis and Delaney! From what I hear there are a few more soon to be announced too! Wow! I can’t believe that one month has gone by. The class has been having a lot of fun summarizing stories, retelling them in their own words, and painting pictures to depict what they thought a poem portrayed to them personally. It has been interesting.
The students have been introduced to a new program this year called “self managers”. They have to maintain 3 points for behavior in all their classes, and be determined by their reading, math, and homeroom teachers to be a self manager. After they have applied, if they are chosen by the Principal, they get privileges such as leaving the classroom early for transitions, the self manager hall pass, and classroom benefits. It’s really awesome and we are all super excited about when our class will get their first self managers.
