From Ms. Roberts:
We have entered our last month of classes!!! This week has been hard on the kids as we finish up the last of their testing for the year, but they made it through. Even so, we still have a lot of projects, work, and studying to do. Please do your best to make sure they attend as you always do. Make certain that you continue with the math facts and reading. This should also continue throughout the summer as the students need their fluency in these facts to be strong for next year. We have some fun days coming up, so be sure that your student knows what they are so that they can dress appropriately. See the list below. Final report cards will be mailed home – please be sure we have your most current address on file. You will also need to make sure all library books are returned and fees are paid for a fresh start in the Fall. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

I am so glad to be writing to you again! It has been a long road getting back to school, but I am utterly happy to be back in the classroom again.
You have received a permission slip home from SPLASH which needs to be turned back into the school with a $3 field trip fee by May 24th. Please get these in so that your child can take part in the field trip on June 6th. I got a new air conditioner for the classroom due to how hot it has been in the building. It just arrived today, and boy is it making a difference. It is going to be exciting to see how these last weeks of school go. There are only 14.5 more days of school. I really can’t believe it! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Take care, Ms. Roberts Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

One very wet week down,
Wow! I was not expecting that we would have a 2 hour delayed day of school! But, add that to the pouring down rain that we have had since, and it makes for a lot of recesses inside. J I sure am glad for the rain though. It’s about time we had some good old rainy weather to keep us from having a super dry summer. We are desperately in need of some supplies for the classroom. Here is a list of things we would be happy to accept:
Also, if you would like to send snack such as crackers, string cheese, granola bars, fruit snacks, fruit, or any other snack things that would be awesome. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

The second month of 2017 is here, and it snowed...briefly, thank goodness!
Grades for the second quarter of school have been entered, and report cards should be sent out next week. So, if you are surprised that your student has not brought home a report card yet, don’t worry. It hasn’t been sent out yet. J I am so proud of the students that showed up for the hand bell concert this week. They did such a great job! I was so pleased that I was able to be there and watch them. This week the students have been working on identifying what cells do in muscles, and how they get the nutrients that they need to operate. The students have been working together to create a diagram that shows this process. It is really interesting listening to their conversations! Important Dates and Upcoming Events:
We met our perfect attendance goal! Congratulations everyone for your hard work! The students had a great time during their nacho party. They got to watch “Ye Shen”, a Chinese Cinderella story. It was a different spin on the typically repeated Cinderella story, so the students were rather intrigued that it included a talking fish! (The spelling test is on February 16, 2017. All of the words are on the test in a random order. The students only need to define one word on the test.) Spelling List:

Student Spotlight We are so close to meeting our perfect attendance goal for the classroom! Just one more day and our class will be able to watch a short show from the 1980’s CBS Storybreaks, and have nachos for a snack. I’m so proud of how the class has been striving for five this school year! Hello and good day to you!

Student Spotlight Students are competing in designing a new Strive for Five poster. This artwork needs to feature “Strive for Five, Miss Less than Five”. Artwork is due January 25, 2017. Winners will be announced the week of February 6, 2017. The ice and snow came and went, and now we have had chilly days with sunshine. I am thankful that the students have been arriving to school safely. There have been some illnesses going around due to the colder weather, so the school has decided there should be no high fives for the time being to decrease the amount of germs being passed around. Our class already wipes down all the desks with disinfectant wipes to decrease the germs in our classroom. Still, we ask if your child has a fever or is throwing up that they stay home from school.
We had our Strive for Five Pride Assembly today celebrating the perfect attendance accomplishments, and positive behavior of the students. The student of the month attribute is organization, which the students are doing pretty well on. We are continuing our science unit, studying the human body’s organ systems. We have been studying more closely how the organ systems work, and how they interact with each other. Today, we started our discussion on diabetes. Important Dates and Upcoming Events:

Students are competing in designing a new Strive for Five poster. This artwork needs to feature “Strive for Five, Miss Less than Five”. Artwork is due January 25, 2017. Winners will be announced the week of February 6, 2017. Brrr, it’s cold!
The snow is beginning to fall on the pass, and the weather is definitely getting a nip to it. I hope that you had a wonderful week off, and a great Thanksgiving! There has been a slight change on our club meeting days and times. If you received my last newsletter, it incorrectly stated the meeting day of the Newspaper Club. Their meeting is actually on Thursdays from 3:15-3:45. The Sign Language Club meets on Mondays from 3:15-3:45. I am sorry for the confusion. Please send a signed note in with your child so that we know they can take the bus home. This week, the students have begun learning about the 5 themes of geography. They have started an assignment that is due on the 12th of this month, collecting information on the city of Oakridge, its people, and how it came to be. This is a past history and current times project. The students are being encouraged to speak with other people, especially family, about this subject. When they are done with one of the project options, a poster, an essay, or a slideshow, then they will be presenting a short, 3 minute speech on the subject. I think it is going to be a lot of fun! Congratulations Cole on becoming a self manager! From Ms. Roberts:
Next week is Thanksgiving! I can’t believe that next week is conferences. I apologize for not getting out the schedule sheets until Wednesday, but our meeting discussing the times was not until Tuesday after school. You should have received your conference schedule sheets on Wednesday. If you did not, please let me know so that I can be sure the time selected is good for you. There is going to be a Sign Language club after school on Mondays. There is also going to be a Newspaper Club on Thursdays after school. Please send a note in with your child giving permission for them to stay after school if they wish to attend. That way, they may take home the second bus which arrives at the school at 3:45.
